Happy New Year! I wished I could say that with much enthusiasm but I was not really in the mood. I received a bunch of New Year’s greetings that day but I selected this one because it summed up what was happening in my life at that time. All attempts at reconciliation with my ex had failed and I was practically begging to patch up our differences since I didn’t want to start the year with bad vibes but to no avail. To top it off, I was also waiting for the bar results which was coming in the first quarter of the year. There is an inside joke amongst barristers that after the bar exams, that is being held in September, there should be no talking about the bar before new year. This is so you wouldn’t feel nervous and destroy your happy mood during the holidays up until New Year. After New Year your stomach will begin to churn as the anticipation for the result of the bar nears since there are no more major events coming that will take your mind off the bar..

This apparently is not a joke.

Since the holidays are over there are no more major events that will distract you from the upcoming results. I also failed to mention that I was still unemployed at the time since I made a mistake in submitting my resumes only after the bar exams. As it turns out there is an oversupply of job applicants with the same credentials as mine applying for the same jobs since I was also competing with other barristers faced with the same situation.

I clearly remember that this was the tipping point of my life in terms of my career and relationship. This was the day that I decided that enough is enough and I had to do something about it. Just like the New Year, Some things must end and some things must begin.

When darkness turns to light, it ends tonight.
